COURSE DESCRIPTION
Business Essentials is a one semester course designed to introduce students to business principles and strategies. Students will have an opportunity to run a real shaved-ice business as they work together and learn what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. During this semester, all students will be required to join Teton High School BPA (Business Professionals of America). This is the largest CTSO (Career and Technical Skills Organization) in the country. As an active member of BPA, they will have an opportunity to exploring industry-specific careers related to Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Digital Communication, and more! Students will be encouraged to learn essential leadership skills that will help their personal growth and professional development.
This course is focused on BPA! Once students choose an event, they will be a given a chance to compete at regionals (January). If s/he qualifies in their event, they will move on to the State level (March). If s/he qualifies at the State level, they will move on to Nationals (May). This is the highlight of BPA – when students receive recognition of their accomplishment and hard work.
Please Note: This course places strong emphasis in fundraising. In order for the THS BPA students to get to Regional, State, and *National levels we work together as a team to conduct fundraiser events throughout the school year. Students taking this course will be required to attend all fundraiser events (in and outside of school) in order to raise money for upcoming BPA competitions. Students must be in attendance with BPA meetings throughout the school year (typically during lunch once per week).
*Students who place at the State level this year will have an opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference (NLC) held in Orlando, (May 5-9, 2021).
